The moment we've been waiting for is here. DJI doesn’t just listen to its customers - they deliver. And now, they’ve raised the bar once again. The future of enterprise drones has arrived with the release of the DJI M400.

 

DJI’s Matrice 300 Series redefined the enterprise drone market, and the M350 RTK built on that legacy with smarter workflows and better stability. But the new M400 isn’t just an upgrade, it’s a transformation.

 

This article provides a detailed comparison between the DJI M400 and DJI M350 RTK, highlighting the most significant advancements in design, performance, payload, and technology.

Evolution from M350 RTK to M400

The M400 is built for larger-scale operations. It features a longer 1070 mm wheelbase and supports a maximum takeoff weight of 15.8 kg, nearly double that of the M350 (9.2 kg). While the M350 uses the TB65 battery system, the M400 introduces TB100 batteries, offering nearly four times the capacity. This enables flight times up to 59 minutes and greater payload flexibility.

 

The M400 also supports tethered flight natively and includes four E-Port V2 interfaces for payload mounting, compared to two on the M350. For teams that rely on modular payload setups or require persistent flight capability, this structural update is a significant advantage.

Payloads: More Room, More Possibilities

Payload flexibility is a major strength of the M400. It can carry up to 6 kg and accommodate up to seven payloads simultaneously across multiple mounting points. It’s designed to support DJI’s latest smart payloads, including the Zenmuse L2, P1, H30T, and S1.

 

While this makes the M400 more capable for high-precision tasks like photogrammetry, LiDAR mapping, and multi-sensor inspections, it’s worth noting that legacy payloads (such as the L1 or H20 series) are not compatible. The M350 continues to support these older payloads.

Flight Performance & Endurance

The M400 achieves a top horizontal speed of 25 m/s and a maximum range of 20 km in CE mode, significantly beyond the M350’s 8 km range. Its improved propulsion system supports more efficient ascents and descents, better wind resistance, and longer hover times.

 

These improvements are especially valuable in large-area missions or in applications where consistent flight endurance is key, such as corridor mapping, search and rescue, or long-range asset inspection.

Obstacle Avoidance & Sensing Systems

Safety and situational awareness have taken a substantial leap in the M400. It incorporates a multi-layered obstacle sensing system that includes rotating LiDAR, 3D infrared sensors, fisheye cameras, and millimeter-wave radar. This enables all-weather, low-visibility obstacle detection and terrain following, capabilities the M350’s standard 6-directional binocular vision system cannot match.

 

The enhanced sensors enable features like real-time terrain modelling, landing on dynamic surfaces such as moving vessels and safer autonomous navigation through complex environments.

Autonomy, Control & Connectivity

The M400 is built with automation in mind. It integrates DJI’s O4 Enterprise transmission system, which provides dual-band (including sub-2GHz) connectivity, extended range, and improved reliability in complex RF environments. Autonomous capabilities include AI object recognition, real-time terrain following, and multi-drone coordination. 

 

While the M350 still offers reliable RTK performance and solid remote control, the M400’s AI-driven features provide meaningful advantages in high-demand sectors like energy, public safety, and infrastructure inspection.
